Shining Your Light

Sometimes life’s greatest lessons come from what appear to be the most unlikely of sources.

Yesterday, I had the honour and privilege of taking part in a celebration of life for an incredible, majestic, Paint gelding horse named Romeo. Romeo lived life large in every way, and impacted the lives of people all over the world. He was an equine guide, a master of humour in the barn he called home, and a force to be reckoned with. If you lacked boundaries, Romeo would keep taking up your space, until you could ground yourself and claim it. If you were taking yourself, or life, too seriously, Romeo would toss his huge head up and down, flashing his enormous teeth as his gums flapped about in the breeze. Kind of like Mr. Ed the Talking Horse, in that old television show from the early ‘60s! If you were out of your body, or not fully present in the moment, Romeo was not averse to giving you a nip every now and again! Not in a malicious way, but the strength of the nip depended on how far out into the twilight zone you were. And if you needed to be reminded of the breath-taking beauty of strength, power, and grace in motion, all you had to do was watch Romeo running free in his pasture.

Romeo was only 16 years old. What should have been the prime of his life; but the Universe had other plans. Like many beings that leave the planet early, it was as if his soul knew that he would only be here for a short time. So, he packed a full life-time’s worth of living and light into one short brilliant 16 year burst. His human shared how Romeo greeted every single day as if it was the greatest thing that had ever happened. I’m trying to imagine how different my life would be, if I greeted every day that way too.

We all have the same light that Romeo shared with the world. Sometimes it gets buried, or dulled by worldly circumstances. But remembering that light, and shining it, is just one choice away in every moment. Thank you Romeo for the incredible being of light that you were. I will never forget you. Thank you also for the reminder to shine my light everywhere. I know that the world will be a better place each time I make the choice to do so.

New Beginnings

This is my first blog post on my new blog, where my intention is to post a blog once a week! As soon as I wrote that “once a week” part, I felt the pressure inside me start to build. The self-imposed crazy rules about perfection, and duty, and getting it right. So I’m doing my best to set all of that aside, and write from my heart. My heart is my soft centre of vulnerability. The only place I can ever truly connect from. If I get out of my head and into my heart, what is it that I’d like to say to you?

First of all, that part of me is scared setting off on this new adventure of exploring and speaking and teaching about the concept of shift. Scared of putting myself out there in a bigger way than I ever have before. The introverted, introvert part of me (see explanation of this in my TEDx talk) really, really wants to cocoon on a deserted island somewhere, with a 6 month supply of books and music 🙂 Somewhere where there is no risk of rejection, or ridicule, or confrontation. And yet, the bigger part of me keeps calling, keeps encouraging, keeps asking me to step outside of my comfort zone, again and again. “Use your life,” it says to me. “Take all that you’ve lived through and shine the light of hope for other people.”

So, here I am, holding that light in somewhat shaky hands, trusting that the Universe knew what it was doing when it called me! That it chose the right person to shine that light. Trusting that I can be scared and excited at the same time, and I don’t have to be perfect to follow my calling. I just need to keep listening to my heart, feeling the fear, and doing it anyway. And doing it in a way that feels authentic to me.

I keep seeing ads everywhere promising miracles. Three steps to this, or 5 steps to that, and then you will have a 6 figure income overnight. And the hype snags me for a bit. What can I deliver to you that will create those kinds of miracles in your life? And the truth is, nothing. The miracles happen moment by moment, as you start to factor shift into your life, and engage with all of life. The great parts, and the messy parts too.

How can I serve you? I can offer you my heart, my most precious gift. So my promise to you is that if you let me take your hand, I will offer you my heart, and we can set off on this new adventure together, and see where it takes us.

For those of you in the Lower Mainland of B.C., please consider joining me at my free 2 hour live business launch and mini workshop on the evening of Thursday, November 16th in Langley BC.
